Buy The Jimi Hendrix Experience - 4 CDs

Classic rock is not just music, it is a religion. It would seem impossible that some 30 years after his death, and with so many releases, there could be a meaningful compact disc of previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix recordings. "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" has collected not 1 but 4 discs, 56 tracks, more than 4 hours of incredible sounding alternate takes, alternate mixes, and indeed songs previously unreleased except on bootleg recordings. It starts with an extended version of "Purple Haze" which sets the tone for the box. Alternate versions of "Fire" and "Hey Joe" follow closely, and the listener is immediately aware of the fact that this is not your average collection of previously unreleased "diamonds in the rough" or "home demos" but rather a 56 track collection of songs which are in some cases superior to the previously released version, and without exception of great interest to fans of rock music. The box follows a chronological order and is a fine mix of studio and live recordings, blending works by the original Experience with recordings by his short-lived Gypsy Sun & Rainbows, Band of Gypsys, and the reformed Experience (minus Noel Redding).

Here are some of the songs included in these amazing four CDs of Jimi Hendrix:

  • Purple Haze
  • Killing Floor
  • Foxey Lady
  • Third Stone From the Sun
  • Rock Me Baby
  • Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
  • Burning Of The Midnight Lamp
  • Little Miss Lover
  • Sweet Angel
  • Room Full Of Mirrors
  • I Don't Live Today
  • Red House
  • Message To Love
  • Freedom
  • Come Down Hard On Me
  • Night Flying Bird
This music box was released on 12th September 2000.

CD#1: Outtake of "Third Stone from the Sun". You can hear Jimi and Chas Chandler coming up with the spoken intro, as well as the rest of the song. First ever recording of "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" with Jimi Hendrix working out the harpsichord part. Live covers of "Rock Me Baby" and "Like a Rolling Stone" are also fantastic.

CD#2: Instrumental live in the studio "Little Wing". Live cover of "Gloria". Long never before heard blues song "It's Too Bad". And the live in-studio instrumental "Bold as Love", which to me is the best I've ever heard Jimi play. This track alone is worth the price of the set. I can listen to it on repeat all day. Disc two is the one you'll come back to the most along with.

CD#3: This disc is all live. It feature the best live recordings of "I Don't Live Today", "Roomful of Mirrors", and "Spanish Castle Magic" ever. As well as a "Red House" that is up there too.

CD#4: is where the nonstop greatness falters a little... a very little. Highlights are a live "Hey Baby/In from the Storm" medley, some live covers, and all the extremely rarely heard studio recordings of Jimi trying to work out songs for his fourth album.

If you are a fan of Jimi Hendrix then do yourself a favor and buy this 4 CD set! I could not believe my ears when I heard these versions of the songs I've loved for years. Jimi was an artist, every note that comes off the guitar is poetry.
